Downtown Americus to Host Armed Forces Appreciation Day on May 16

Americus, GA – Downtown Americus Main Street invites the community to join in honoring and celebrating members of the Armed Forces during Armed Forces Appreciation Day, taking place on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

This community-centered event will serve as a day of recognition, reflection, and celebration, while also kicking off Americus’ participation in the upcoming America’s 250th anniversary.

Beginning at 10:00 AM, downtown merchants will offer special discounts and promotions to all active and retired military personnel with a valid military ID. The event will continue into the afternoon with live music in Rylander Park, creating a welcoming and festive atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

Live performances will include Mike English at 2:00 PM, followed by Catfish Johnson and the Hushpuppies at 3:15 PM.

In addition to entertainment, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a special community storytelling initiative. Guests are encouraged to share what this country means to them by submitting their responses through a QR code available at the event. These collected stories will contribute to a broader community project in recognition of America’s 250th birthday.

Downtown Americus Main Street encourages everyone to attend, support local businesses, and take part in honoring those who have served.
